I got to see Shazam! almost three weeks early thanks to one of my favorite local conventions “MomoCon”. They hosted a fan event that was first come first serve and thankfully I was there early enough to get a good seat. Now let me get this out of the way…. I’ve never been a huge fan of Shazam as I haven’t read any of the comics and have only seen him here and there watching the “Justice League” cartoon series. That being said, I went into watching this film with low expectations due to unfamiliarity and let’s be real the fact that its a DC live-action film (if you weren’t aware live-action has never been their strong suit there’s a handful of hits among a seas of misses). However, this turned out to be a good film that I wouldn’t have been upset about had I actually purchased a ticket.Read More
I avoided spoilers on this film for the first few days of its release because I was unable to see it until the following Sunday. However, what I was not able to avoid were the headlines showing up in my news feeds about several people not liking the film or saying that it wasn’t “Harry Potter” enough. I still allowed myself to go into the theater with an open mind after refusing to actually read any of those articles until I could make my own judgement. The verdict? I don’t know what some of the other reviewers are talking about! I absolutely LOVED it, but to each their own.Read More
As some of you may know, the premiere for Supergirl season two is right around the corner. I've only been a fan of the show for about a month but I'm just as anxious for 8PM Monday as anyone else. I'm a bit bummed that Hulu isn't streaming shows from The CW anymore because when I can't watch right away I'll have to either remember to set the DVR ahead of time or watch it on a friends Plex media server.
As stated, I was a bit late to the Supergirl bandwagon but I'm glad I eventually came around. I was reluctant to watch the show initially because I wasn't hearing too many good things about it from family and friends. I recall seeing part of one episode while visiting my parents and having no interest whatsoever to continue watching. Meanwhile, my hubby had briefly mentioned that he watched the crossover episode with The Flash but none of the others which further made me wonder if it was worth my time. It wasn't until Netflix sent out a notification about season one that I decided to give it a try, and after struggling to get through the first few episodes it eventually grew on me.Read More
I recall shuddering in disbelief the first time I saw the preview for the upcoming Teenage Mutant Njnja Turtles film, but on opening day as the devoted fan that I'm am who watched the cartoons faithfully on Saturday mornings and had seen all the previous movies... I decided to go see it and bring my dad along with me.
I was a little reluctant because it is a Michael Bay film, and because of the way the characters seem to be completely transformed. Anytime someone tries to revamp something from your childhood it's a bit of a tough pill to swallow. You wonder if you'll love it or hate it... and to my surprise I rather liked it.
Many people joke that the newly re-designed turtles look like Shrek which is quite laughable because when you look at older renderings of their characters... they kind of already did! But I can certainly understand the complaints. Leonardo with the bones over his chests, and Donatello with coke bottle glasses... I don't remember any of that as a child. Oh and don't get me started on the casting of Megan Fox as April O'Neil, she is definitely not a red head.Read More
