Excitement for Supergirl!

As some of you may know, the premiere for Supergirl season two is right around the corner. I’ve only been a fan of the show for about a month but I’m just as anxious for 8PM Monday as anyone else. I’m a bit bummed that Hulu isn’t streaming shows from The CW anymore because when I can’t watch right away I’ll have to either remember to set the DVR ahead of time or watch it on a friends Plex media server.

As stated, I was a bit late to the Supergirl bandwagon but I’m glad I eventually came around. I was reluctant to watch the show initially because I wasn’t hearing too many good things about it from family and friends. I recall seeing part of one episode while visiting my parents and having no interest whatsoever to continue watching. Meanwhile, my hubby had briefly mentioned that he watched the crossover episode with The Flash but none of the others which further made me wonder if it was worth my time.

It wasn’t until Netflix sent out a notification about season one that I decided to give it a try, and after struggling to get through the first few episodes it eventually grew on me. Some of the characters became ones that I love to hate like Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant. I seriously felt like I was watching some weird version of “The Devil Wears Prada meets Undercover Superhero” and I wasn’t impressed. It seemed like they were trying WAY too hard to cater to the female audience. Then of course there was the guy playing James Olsen who, as my husband stated “looks like a supermodel”.  After a few episodes that statement started to sink in and I started looking at the character sideways like “Wait a minute I think this dude really is a model, specifically underwear… I’ve seen him before”.  A quick Google search of Mechad Brooks confirmed my recollection and I burst into laughter. Sadly I’m not as big of a DC Comics fan as some but from what I’ve heard “Jimmy” Olsen is not a pretty boy. I suppose it was generous of them to give us some eye candy though so I won’t complain.

As I continued to watch more episodes, I started making fun of the antics and characters a little less and eventually started actually enjoying the show and not just making fun of it. It still wasn’t perfect and some of characters and their costumes left something to be desired but by the season finale I was hooked. My husband even admitted that he was able to enjoy the crossover episode a little more the second time around after watching some of the show with me. I’m very excited about the addition of Superman to the cast this coming season despite hearing complaints that he looks a bit younger than he should and/or that they wish someone else had been cast (*cough cough* Tom Welling). The occasional Instant Messages and flickers of the character last season just weren’t enough for me so it will be nice to see him in the flesh.

Now that the show has been moved from CBS to The CW I have very high hopes that it will be better this season. I love what The CW has done with The Flash, Arrow, and even Legends of Tomorrow. If any network can improve on it and make me like it more its definitely them.

Let me know if you’re looking forward to the new season in the comments below.

Update 10/11/16: After watching the first episode of the new season I have to say that I like what I’m seeing so far. My only concern is that with Superman sticking around, the show may become focused more on him when it is in fact supposed to be Supergirl. Guess we’ll all just have to watch and see.
