The Things You’ll Sacrifice For A New Phone!

Perhaps I should have titled this the things I’ll sacrifice for a new phone, but I know it’s a relate-able topic that I’ve seen other discuss in the past. When it comes to cell phones there are people who honestly don’t care about what theirs can do as long as it can make a call and maybe take a few grainy photos… my mother is one of those people. I bought her a “dumb phone” nearly 4 years ago and she’s still rocking it like it’s the best thing ever.

And then there are people like me… let’s just say I’m a tech junkie, especially when it comes to phones. Last year alone I went through using 5 different devices, and I’m not a device reviewer… just an Average Joe (or Jane? haha) who knew the right person to enable me to keep up with the latest and greatest.

When it came time to sell one of those devices in preparation for getting a new one, a lovely little website called Swappa.com came to be quite handy.

Getting up to this year I’ve only had two new mobile devices… one was a cheap Windows Phone that is currently sitting on a shelf in my closet as my back-up device and the second a Moto X. I have to be honest that months later I still love that phone and it is still chugging along quite nicely but there’s a part of me that wants something new, I’d even go as far as to say that I’m overdue for a new device given my reputation.

Sadly, it’s not as easy for me to get a phone as it used to be… I’m not with Verizon anymore, which is probably for the best as my plan was pretty pricey with a discount. My mom is actually still paying about $50+ a month for a basic plan with them and we have been counting down the days til her contract ends. I have to admit that I am missing my grandfathered unlimited data plan, but I had to give it up due to extenuating circumstances and I’m not going to cry over spilled milk.

Meanwhile, I’ve been using T-Mobile as a prepaid service provider with minimal complaints… I got the $70 unlimited everything plan back in January and while I’ve recently seen it go up to $80 I seem to be locked into the original price… perhaps because I’m auto-pay? I’m not going to complain about it either way.

I’ve been able to bring my unlocked Moto X along for the ride with no issues and unlimited data, talk, and text at that price is clearly a steal. Yet there have been a few service/coverage issues here and there… nothing unbearable but still a bit hard to adjust to coming from Verizon who had great coverage EVERYWHERE I went.

Lately that itch to get a new phone has gotten stronger. I specifically have my eyes on getting the LG G3 by any means necessary. It’s amazing how after 8 months of boasting about being contract free I’m seriously considering getting back into a contract all of a sudden just for a new phone.

T-Mobile does not do contracts anymore, and to be honest I’m not in the mood to pay the full retail price for a phone at the moment (even if its split into monthly payments). So that leaves the other 3 major U.S. carriers Verizon, Sprint, and AT&T. For obvious reasons I have no interest in going back to “Big Red” and I need unlimited data so AT&T is also out… which leaves me with Sprint :-/

If getting into a contract with Sprint isn’t a sacrifice I don’t know what is! My dad has had them for years and my very first phone as a teenager was with them but I’ve never been blown away by their service. On a positive note though, I can get the phone for $99 at Best Buy with a 2-year contract at the moment, my dad recently did so and after playing around with his a bit and hearing numerous great things about it from others I’m nearly convinced.

I have good reason for being so anxious to get my hands on the new addition to the LG family (even without seeing all the great reviews) as a result of personal experience. I had the LG G2 last year and it was possibly the best phone I’ve had to date, the only reason I sold it was because I had other financial obligations and there was no other way.

Not mention, it’s so pretty!!!

Let’s face it I want this phone so badly that I added cases for it to my Amazon wishlist for it 3 weeks ago, I’m 99.9% sure that I’ll be getting my hands on it soon. I just hate to think of what it means to lock myself into a contract all over again…
