• The Crimes of Grindelwald

    The Crimes of Grindelwald

I avoided spoilers on this film for the first few days of its release because I was unable to see it until the following Sunday. However, what I was not able to avoid were the headlines showing up in my news feeds about several people not liking the film or saying that it wasn’t “Harry Potter” enough. I still allowed myself to go into the theater with an open mind after refusing to actually read any of those articles until I could make my own judgement. The verdict? I don’t know what some of the other reviewers are talking about! I absolutely LOVED it, but to each their own.

My initial reaction upon walking out of the theater was that I may have actually liked it more than the first one… followed by wondering if others with a negative reaction had watched the same movie. In my opinion the Wizarding World is a universe akin to the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) and therefore has multiple characters in its franchise. It is not all about Captain America or Iron-man, it gives the limelight to various other characters as well. So coming into Fantastic Beasts I never expected it to be just like Harry Potter and I don’t think that others should look at it that way either. Its a prequel series with new characters in a different time line and different locations. I think the characters are well developed despite the fact that some get more screen-time in Fantastic Beasts than they do in Grindelwald.

I feel as though some people forget that we are only on number two of a five part series and that the plot is going to have to be spread out. I will say that after watching the latest film it feels like this could probably be wrapped up as a trilogy but I’m interested in seeing where J.K. Rowling is going with this. I don’t want to spoil the movie for anyone so I’ll spare any intricate details since its only been out for a little over a week. But I think that you should go into it with an open mind and just enjoy it for what it is without thinking of it as something that has to tie into Harry Potter versus the Wizarding World as a whole.

  • Loving What I Do.

    Loving What I Do.

So, this time instead of taking over a year to update it’s only been 4 months. That’s progress right? I mean, gotta start somewhere if you catch my drift. As far as recent updates I have been extremely busy lately. I’m working again which is great not only for the income but because I’m actually doing something that I truly love. I graduated with an Associates Degree in Computer Networking Technology a few years back and I’ve always wanted to work in Information Technology. I also did amazing in school graduating at the top of my class. However, I was seriously dragging my feet on trying to get a tech related job. I’ve always done Customer Service, Administrative/Clerical and Management. Those areas kind of became my comfort zone and kept me from looking for jobs that harnessed ALL of my skills. So after this little sabbatical I’ve taken for the past 7 months or so… I finally pushed myself to apply for an entry-level job in my field. I’m now a Service Desk Analyst and I couldn’t be happier! I work with a lot of nerds and as such not only love my job but the environment as a whole. I feel like I’m actually making some legit friendships and its exactly what I need. I’m going to keep this entry short and sweet because I have some other ideas I’m working on for both the blog and YouTube (freaking finally). I just wanted to give my followers a quick update 😉

  • It’s Been Too Long.

    It’s Been Too Long.

Wow, so my last update on this blog was around a year and a half ago. I’m not gonna beat myself up about it because life happens… but I wish I would have made more of an effort. Running a site like this or even a YouTube channel can be a lot of work, especially with the goals and aspirations that I have for it and myself. It’s like a job where you give maximum effort for little to no pay. That said, I still wanted to make it work even if it could only be a part-time thing and I still do. I’ve invested a lot lately, particularly into my YouTube channel and I intend to do the same this summer for this website as well. A couple of months ago I bought a new HD video camera, some lighting equipment, and another mic. I even have better video editing software now; so the only thing holding me back is myself. I have a lot of friends in my corner pushing me to well… push myself, which is exactly what I need at the moment. I’m not going to set a schedule for how often I’ll update because that puts unnecessary stress and strain on me and only leaves my followers disappointed. However, I do promise to make more of an effort with all things extravagantGEEK going forward and I certainly have the resources I need now (including more time) so there is no excuse.
